An Indian company in home textile wants to launch its product abroad. This case concentrates on preparing the export strategy for the company.

Problem Statement

  • Study the current export market of existing players in market which includes the country to which bed sheets are being exported, quantity of bed sheet exported and sales of bed sheet (in terms of revenue and quantity)
  • Analyse the competitors’ mode of sale and business model; Identify the websites for sale to retail and wholesale customers
  • Identify the potential countries to target first for the new company based on the analysis of the country’s market size, competition and demand for Indian bed sheets
  • Study the Indian government regulations and mandatory requirements for export
  • Look for incentives offered by Indian government for bed sheet export in general and to any country in particular
  • Study the channels through which tie-ups can be done to export by analysing the channels being used by the current exporters

Research

The approach has been from macro level to micro level. Flow of research is as follows:

  • Export analysis of Indian bed sheet: Study the trend of export of Indian bed sheet from India which consists for identifying the countries to which bed sheet are exported; share of export to each country on the basis of quantity (number of bed sheet) exported, revenue and average price of bed sheet.
  • Competitor Analysis: We collected data about competitors who are exporting bed sheets. We have mentioned the countries they are exporting to and kind of bed sheets.
  • Business Export Strategy: We studied the Government websites and official documents and noted the points such as mandatory requirements, procedure to get import code, export incentives, etc.
  • B2B Marketplace: We have identified B2B marketplace and recommended some websites based on their popularity and reach.
  • Export incentives: We studied various official documents to know about the various incentive that the government currently gives for exporting bed sheets. The various incentives are available under scheme like Market-linked Focus Product Scheme, Focus Product Scheme. Next the shipping procedure including the various clearances that are required was also studied.
  • Apart from the export strategy, we have also worked on domestic strategy such as study the strength and weakness of domestic competitors.
  • Finally on the basis of our findings and research, we provided recommendation for export and channels of sale of bed sheet.
